Prins Hendrik sand dyke
The fertile soil of Texel is particularly suited to growing flower bulbs. The natural landscape forms an important tourist attraction. But that was threatened by a leaking dyke. Higher Water Board Hollands Noorderkwartier, the water management unit for this dyke, was looking for a solution. Jan De Nul Group provided the ultimate solution: a new dune landscape against the old dyke and a salt marsh landscape on the seaward side. As a result, the transition between land and water is at once more natural and sustainable. Because of the dynamic nature of the area, this part of the Texel sea defences will meet strict water safety requirements for the coming decades. It took Jan De Nul Group only about a year to complete this exceptional project. A design where water management goes hand in hand with nature development, so that 14,000 local inhabitants and more than a million visitors a year can keep enjoying this exceptional nature reserve.
