Formosa 2 in ITA mode
On the Formosa 2 project, Jan De Nul brought its subcontractors and the local supply chain together during the Subcontractor Day, held on 6th of March 2020 in Taipei. As EPCI contractor, one of the challenges is to ensure that all parties involved in the project are showing the right mind-set and work within expectations.
Peter De Pooter, Manager Offshore Renewables, opened the session by sharing Jan De Nul’s corporate vision, mission and core values. The Project Director, David Debaere, subsequently informed the attendees about the lessons learnt from the Formosa 1 project, and set the goals and principles for the project as transpired through the Imagine-Think-Act programme and the project charter with the slogan ‘One project, one team, one plan’.
As all subcontractors and suppliers are only focusing on a certain part of the works, a full project briefing was presented with the actual progress and status to date allowing them to see the bigger picture. The session was also attended by the Employer Formosa 2 who gave further insight in the 376MW Development, the different stakeholders, their targets and ambitions for the project.
All subcontractors contributed to the Day by presenting and outlining the main risks and lessons learnt for their respective operations. The presentations allowed other subcontractors to identify similar challenges and interfaces leading to valuable insights. A team building exercise facilitated by our ITA inspirer Steve Stenvers concluded the successful day whereby shared commitments were made.
Earlier in the week, Steve had facilitated already three ITA leadership courses, whereby the participants were immersed in the world of Imagine-Think-Act. The programme explains who we are and how we wish to work, with emphasis on operational control, good communication and strong leadership applied in the field. It resulted in 50 new ITA ambassadors consisting of Jan De Nul, Formosa 2 and subcontractor personnel. The ambassadors made an individual commitment towards the project, and will now carry out the message across the project that safe practices deliver better results and emphasizing that every person participating in the project is to return home safely after the job is completed.
With the contribution of all package managers and project team members and due to the tremendous organization efforts and inspiration by the HSE department, one can conclude that the Formosa 2 project is in full ITA mode and people are ready to make it a success!
