Soilmix and archaeological findings underneath the ‘Broeltorens’
For the construction of an underground car park for three new luxury high-rise buildings next to the historic Broeltorens, an old school was first demolished. Underneath its foundations, remains of an old refuge chapel and of the first settlement in Kortrijk were discovered. As a result, an archaeological dig ran parallel with our excavations.
Soetaert-Soiltech were in charge of excavating the basement. We created a watertight tanked slab with the soilmix technique, down to a depth of 19.10 m. These soilmix walls had to be built right next to existing buildings and shored walls. This means we had to proceed very carefully. Right up our street!
Before starting the excavations, we drilled anchors in the soilmix walls. After excavation, our mission as main contractor was accomplished and we proudly handed over the project to our parent company Jan De Nul Group.
