Dogger Bank in the UK
For the offshore wind farm Dogger Bank, UK, we transport and install 277 of the world’s most powerful wind turbines, each producing 13 or 14 MW. When completed, Dogger Bank will supply at least 6 million households a year with green power.
Subsea cables
We want renewable energy to be used efficiently and to reach the people and industries that need it. That is why we connect national energy grids and offshore structures through subsea power cables and umbilicals. With our expertise and specialized equipment, we safely transport, install, and protect a variety of subsea cables:
- Interconnector power cables connect the energy grids of neighbouring countries worldwide.
- Export cables provide the link between offshore wind farms and energy grids to bring offshore energy ashore.
- Inter-array power cables connect the different wind turbines within the wind farms.
- Electrification and umbilical cables are installed to power and operate offshore platforms.
Greenlink: connecting Ireland and Great Britain
To connect the Irish and British power grids, we installed and protected two high-voltage DC cables and a fibre-optic cable over 160 kilometres to establish the 500-MW Greenlink Interconnector.
Subsea rock installation
Offshore structures and subsea cables need protection to maintain their integrity over time. With our versatile fleet of installation vessels, we deliver protective and restorative solutions that protect structures against scouring and damage of any kind.
Our specialized fleet deploys a range of solutions, including rock, gravel, filter bags, and concrete mattresses, in shallow and deep waters. We use advanced installation methods and cutting-edge technology to ensure high precision and efficiency.
Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3
In 2024 we completed the installation of 107 foundations for two wind farms in the German North Sea, Gode wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3. We installed scour protection at all 107 locations before the installation of the foundations.
Seabed interventions
Offshore structures need a stable foundation. Wherever necessary, we prepare the seabed to create optimal conditions for installation and to protect the offshore infrastructure.
To ensure a solid base for offshore structures, the seabed often needs to be prepared. We handle this by sweeping, levelling the surface, and, if necessary, placing a layer of gravel to create a stable foundation. For subsea pipelines and cables that need to come ashore, we excavate special trenches that start at sea, may pass across the foreshore, and continue onto land. Our expertise also includes tailored landfall solutions, where we guide cables and pipelines onto shore using techniques like pull-ins and cofferdam installations.
Formosa 2 Offshore wind farm, Taiwan
Formosa 2 will provide 380 000 households in Taiwan with green energy. We installed both the foundations for the wind turbines and subsea cables. Our Cable Installation Vessels Willem de Vlamingh and Connector picked up, transported, and installed the cables and served as support to bury the cables in certain parts of the seabed to protect them.
