Construction of a new quay wall
To make the Amazon port future-proof, a new quay wall was built over a length of 2.4 km. Furthermore, the harbour basin was widened with another 55 metres from 255 to 310 metres. Following the widening of the Amazon port, also the biggest container ships can now moor in this southern part of the port.
For the deep foundation of the quay wall, we made a combi-wall: we placed 741 tubular piles – with a maximum length of 37 metres – and an equal number of sheet piles. This was done using deep foundation machines with a telescopic leader mast and cable cranes with freely suspended vibratory hammers.
