TM Brugfabriek renovates 49 bridges in Flanders by 2030
Many bridges in Flanders date from the construction peak of the 1960s and 1970s and are now seriously outdated. Delays in maintenance, a sharp increase in traffic and new safety and technology requirements mean that many bridges in Flanders will need a thorough structural makeover in the coming years.
TM Brugfabriek, a collaboration between Jan De Nul, Willemen and Artes, is joining forces to renew no fewer than 49 bridges across Flanders by 2030 for the Department of Mobility and Public Works. The Agency for Roads and Traffic and De Vlaamse Waterweg are also involved in this extensive project. The TM Brugfabriek was chosen by the Flemish government as a partner on based on their plan of action, content quality and smooth cooperation.
TM Brugfabriek commits to efficiency and sustainability
TM Brugfabriek will design, build, maintain and finance the 49 bridges. Together with the Department of Mobility and Public Works, we plan the works in such a way that traffic is affected as little as possible. In this planning, safety of road users and our own people are priorities.
Another key element to managing the construction of the 49 bridges is standardisation. By standardising in design, construction and maintenance, we reduce costs and ensure faster access to the bridges for traffic.
Furthermore, we choose robust designs that are easy to maintain and require few elements to be replaced during the first 30 years.
The government and TM Brugfabriek just concluded the framework agreement for this PPP project. Works are scheduled to start in 2026.
