Gent Lummerzheim & Co
Since 1872, the factory buildings of the former tar factory 'Lummerzheim & Co’ were located in the Zeeschipstraat, near Gent’s port area. On this former industrial site (75,000 m²), we developed the sustainable Regional Business Park Gent-Noord, accounting for 14 new business units.
Revalorisation of the Lumco site
In 2005, we took over the company Lummerzheim & Co, which went bankrupt in 1998, including the historically contaminated assets and the remaining roofing activities (going concern). Through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach, we were able to unlock this brownfield and make it ready for development. The remaining business operations were relocated and the derelict buildings demolished. The site was remediated and redeveloped as a contemporary regional business park.
A phased development
The development was executed in phases. Phase 1 (SME zone with 8 units), phase 2 (Renault Dacia A&P Mahy) and phase 3 (‘Grensland Autogroep’ for Opel and Kia) have been completed. The new business park enjoys great visibility along the Zeeschipstraat, one of the main access roads to reach Gent’s inner city through the R4, and is well on its way to become the new automotive cluster of Gent. The development of the 4th and final phase with an available area of 11,900 m² (for MIG Motors) was fully completed by the end of 2021. Currently, a real estate lease with Lindab is still in progress for one of the completed business units.
