4 Fonteinen in Vilvoorde, Belgium
Vilvoorde 4 Fonteinen
Together with the city of Vilvoorde, ‘Waterwegen en Zeekanaal’ and Novovil (now PMV), we initiated and worked for 15 years on the large-scale brownfield redevelopment and reconversion project ‘4 Fonteinen’ (32 acres).
After a prior ‘unlocking’ trajectory that took many years – including acquisition, consolidation of sites, exchange transactions, remediation & demolition works, reallocation, defining a vision, pre-investments (in resources, people and time), etc. – we and the many other stakeholders opened new prospects for an industrial area that had been blocked for so long.
The antiquated business park, located in between the Schaarbeeklei, the Zenne and the Sea Canal and bordering the Sluisstraat and vehicle inspection site, makes way for a vibrant new city quarter with space for 930 residential units, complemented by local shops, service facilities and offices. The project stands for sustainable mobility, public space and the integration of valuable industrial heritage.
In 2017, we sold 100% of the public-private partnership project 4 Fonteinen to our partner Matexi, with which earlier on in 2012 we had entered into a 50/50 partnership.
