On the African west coast in Sierra Leone, three projects were completed. The harbour project was funded by the World Bank and included normal dredging activities for the harbour quays and for the ferry terminal in Tangrin and Kissy. Jan De Nul Group brought the canal at Pepel near the estuary in Freetown, back to its original depth for African Minerals. As a result, vessels can now load up to 75,000 tonne of iron ore in Pepel. Suction cutter Dirk Martens dredged a channel from Pepel to Tonkolili, with a depth of -3,9 m. This enables iron ore transport from the mining concession of London Mining. In Tonkolili, the upstream loading point, we installed piles for the loading facilities and dredged the berth.
