Dunkerque

The Port of Dunkirk, France

Over the past 50 years, the closed docks of the Autonomous Port of Dunkirk have seriously silted up. Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque chose Jan De Nul Group and Envisan for the dredging and processing of approximately 60,000 m³ of polluted sediments per year. For the treatment of these sediments, Jan De Nul Group and Envisan designed dewatering facilities.

We carried out the works entirely in the outer harbour of Dunkirk. The works ran from 2007 to 2013 and were achieved in several phases. In a first phase, JDN built three dewatering lagoons of 2ha each for the natural dewatering of the material. This was followed by hydraulic dredging. Then, JDN treated the silt using innovative natural dewatering techniques and finally processed the silt. In total, 300,000 m³ silt was upgraded after treatment.
