The impact on the environment and on the first construction phase, which was already in use, was kept as low as possible. In each activity and in the logistic organisation of the construction site, limiting the impact on patients and visitors was always paramount. On a technical level too, a whole range of innovative structural building techniques were implemented: installation of specially designed modular load-bearing façade elements, implementation of post-stressed concrete for more than 71,000 m2 floor slabs, embedding of techniques and ducts in the concrete structure,...
For the complete indoor finishing of the new-build hospital too, AZ Groeninge called on Jan De Nul Group and its partners. In less than 2.5 years this 100 million Euro contract was completed successfully and the removal operations from the old campuses could be rolled out perfectly in accordance with the planning.
Parallel to the finishing works in the new-build hospital, Jan De Nul Group and its consortium partner also built the underground car park for AZ Groeninge. It took less than 16 months after the first sod was turned to open the parking garage to the public. The building offers underground parking space for 1,800 cars, and 600 cars aboveground.
The result is a stunning piece of innovative engineering and creative modern architecture. The high-end finishing lifts the hospital to a higher level.
