Jan De Nul rebrands into ‘World Builder’
Jan De Nul became widely known as a dredging contractor in the early 2000s through iconic projects such as the Palm Island in Dubai. But a lot of activities were added over the past decades. With this brand story, Jan De Nul wants to make it clear that it is much more than a dredging company.
From offshore wind power to complex infrastructure on land
One such activity, for example, revolves around offshore wind energy. The company has been installing offshore wind farms for more than a decade, laying subsea electricity cables and is now collaborating on the much-discussed energy island in Belgium. Land-based construction projects are also part of Jan De Nul's expertise - in fact, they accounted for 23% of the company's turnover in 2023.
Think of the Oosterweel link or the new Toots Thielemans metro line in Brussels. But also the Belgian military infrastructure for the F-35 aircraft or the 'egg' in Brussels. All projects on which Jan De Nul is working or has worked. This diversity of projects called for a clear brand story.
The story we are telling the world today offers answers to questions I ask myself personally.
Julie De Nul, CEO of Jan De Nul: "We do so much more today than we did ten years ago. Jan De Nul is helping to build solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time. The energy transition, sustainable building, smart mobility, cleaning up polluted sites, tackling PFAS, restoring biodiversity .... The story we are telling the world today offers answers to questions I also ask myself personally. I have three daughters. And I want them too to still be able to enjoy a safe country, a liveable world, a quality of life not inferior to ours today."
Attracting talent
So the company enters 2025 with a new logo, new colours and a new slogan. But what it particularly wants to highlight is its social relevance - an important asset for attracting young and experienced talent, according to Jan De Nul. Necessary, because today they have over two hundred open vacancies.
Jan De Nul's story therefore starts from the many evolutions that threaten our quality of life. Climate change, phasing out fossil fuels, rising sea levels, soil and water pollution, declining biodiversity... Jan De Nul is helping to build solutions to all these challenges, so that there will still be a liveable world for the next generations. The company counts on its fleet of ships and machines, but above all on its team of 8,000 'Can-do People', as they like to call their employees.
Julie De Nul: "The sectors we work in are very capital-intensive. Just think of the gigantic vessels you need to install the ever larger wind turbines. So growth is necessary and we continue to strive for that. But with the higher purpose of tackling the challenges we face as a society. And we are constantly looking for driven and talented people to help us do that."
