Jan De Nul gains award once more for sustainable entrepreneurship
With the Sustainable Business Charter, the entrepreneurial network Voka East Flanders supports organisations in its province, in their efforts to achieve their sustainability goals. The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form the universal framework.
Partly thanks to this Charter, Jan De Nul Group has continued to work intensively on sustainable entrepreneurship over the past three years. The company set up several actions in which all SDGs were highlighted.
"Our participation in the Voka Sustainable Business Charter is a driver to understand the SDGs and apply them within our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. It makes the SDGs more tangible within our own context and for our employees", explains Isabelle Herteleer, CSR Manager at Jan De Nul Group. "The Charter is entirely in line with our corporate strategy. Over the past year, we have taken well-considered actions on all facets of the SDGs, with a clear focus on energy, emissions and climate."
Actions focussing on energy, emissions and climate
In Belgium and worldwide, Jan De Nul focuses on well-founded actions to reduce the negative impact of its activities. The CSR strategy is built around three main pillars: reduce the impact of business activities on air and water, invest in human capital and use innovation as a driving force. The actions, large and small, encourage all colleagues to work together on tomorrow's world. This ranges from bicycle leasing for employees; raising awareness about everyone's printing behaviour to organising beach clean-ups on sites worldwide; to even greening the energy consumption by investing in renewable energy sources for the sites and offices.
Circular solutions
Environmental subsidiary Envisan won the award for the third year in a row. Envisan focuses on circular solutions for a better planet and in doing so, aims to constantly improve its ecological footprint. By remediating and redeveloping polluted and underutilised brownfield sites, Envisan offers an answer to the ever-increasing scarcity of land. In its soil and groundwater remediation, environmental dredging and soil and sediment treatment operations, Envisan maximises the valorisation and reuse of raw materials and residues and the use of renewable energy, while at the same time minimising transport. Through research & development around unique and innovative solutions, Envisan can distinguish itself through its sustainable approach and development. Envisan always keeps a close eye on its CO2 footprint and tries to reduce it in every project.
“Jan De Nul Group is future-proof and permanently works on the world of tomorrow. We challenge our boundaries and stretch our limits every day. We always strive for the best possible result for people and planet. We do this through a strong focus on innovation and energy, quality, people and social awareness. We breathe sustainability in the widest sense of the word", Isabelle Herteleer, CSR Manager at Jan De Nul Group concludes.
The Charter is entirely in line with our corporate strategy. Over the past year, we have taken well-considered actions on all facets of the SDGs, with a clear focus on energy, emissions and climate.
