Ushuaia – Argentine – Approfondissement du port d’Ushuaia

Deepening of Ushuaia Harbour, Argentina

Deepening of Ushuaia Harbour

The port authority of Ushuaia, the most southerly harbour in Argentina and the most southern city in the world, wanted to deepen the harbour basin in order to receive larger cruise ships. For this, the authority appointed Jan De Nul Group.

Because of its location, Ushuaia is a highly prized stop for cruise ships exploring the Arctic Sea, like the 317-metre long Celebrity Eclipse. To make the harbour accessible for such cruise ships, Jan De Nul Group trailing hopper dredger Vitus Bering started works in the basin. In less than a week, the job was completed and the hopper dredger dredged 50,000 m3 of sediments.
