Gent Filature du Rabot

A new anchorage in gent

People from Gent immediately link ‘het Rabot’ to (textile) industry. The site of the former Filature du Rabot contains factory buildings that since 1910, were run as jute spinning mills and twining workshops until the company went bankrupt in 1999.

At the end of 2003, we bought the premises and buildings from the receivership, including all remediation obligations. On the site, soil and groundwater contamination had been found, originating from various sources, both on and beyond the project area.

We took on a coordinating role to make this brownfield ready for redevelopment, focussing on housing and retail and paying special attention to the existing industrial heritage. In 2013, we transferred the project to another developer. Afterwards, we further coordinated and implemented the remediation obligation in coordination with the new owner-developer's construction program.
