MALT, a new urban district for Mechelen, Belgium
The site boasts a rich history: from a malting house to a rubber factory, and later a non-ferrous metal pressing plant. Since the last industrial user abandoned the site, it has faced challenges such as vacancy and neglect. Furthermore, the legacy of industrial activities left traces in the soil, necessitating a cleanup in 2022 before redevelopment could begin.
By the summer of 2025, the first office users will move in, and by spring 2026, the apartments and houses will also be completed.
