At the estuary of the Coega River, about 20 kilometres east of Port Elizabeth, Jan De Nul Group contributed to the construction of a completely new deep-sea port.
The civil works contract included the construction of a new breakwater and new quay walls. Jan De Nul was responsible for executing the dredging contract.
This entailed dredging the access channel to -18m and the turning basin of the port to -16m to allow port traffic with ships up to 80,000 tonnes.
