Offshore wind farm Tahkoluoto, Finland

In 2016, wind power producer Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy selected Jan De Nul Group as principal contractor for the marine works of the new offshore wind farm in Tahkoluoto, Finland. We undertook the dredging works, seabed preparation and installation of the foundations and wind turbines.

Tahkoluoto is the first offshore wind farm in Finland that is also designed to operate in sea ice conditions. The wind farm consists of ten 4.2 MW SiemensGamesa turbines. Due to the icy conditions in winter, the wind farm was constructed during two consecutive summer seasons. In 2016, Jan De Nul Group carried out preparatory works, such as dredging and preparation of gravel foundation beds. In 2017, we installed the steel gravity-based foundations and the wind turbines. In the autumn of 2017, the wind farm was ready for use.
