West Nile Delta, Egypt
West Nile Delta
Jan De Nul installed two umbilicals in Egypt for the new West Nile Delta gas fields, north of Alexandria. Both umbilicals, with a total length of 69 km, were loaded on-board in May 2018 in Norway and shipped to Egypt. Early August 2018, the installation works were completed successfully.
The challenging installation campaign started with laying the cables on-land over a 3 km distance. The terminal station of the umbilicals was installed with great accuracy at a depth of 600 metres. To reduce the risk of damaging the umbilicals, they were laid by the Willem De Vlamingh and buried at the same time by the cable-laying vessel Isaac Newton. For this task, the Willem De Vlamingh was specially converted to transport and install the UTA’s.
