Dubaï – Canal Palm Cove

Palm Cove Canal, Dubai

Palm Cove Canal

In 2007, client Nakheel chose Jan De Nul Group as principal contractor to carry out the excavation works of the Palm Cove Canal project in Dubai. This project is part of the onshore activities of the wider Dubai Waterfront Project, an urban regeneration project with a combination of residential, commercial and leisure purposes.

Jan De Nul Group’s assignment mainly consisted of three parts: dry excavation of a 6 km long canal, shore protection with riprap, and installation of retaining walls. In total, we excavated 5 main basins, 200 m wide. For this, we dug out more than 8 million m3 rock material, which we reused onshore and offshore. We protected the south side of the canal with a 5 km long rock revetment of 1 million tonnes of rock in total. On the north side, we built 9 km of concrete retaining walls. With this project, Jan De Nul Group accessed the new segment of dry civil engineering works in Dubai.
