Port of Oskarshamn, Sweden

Dredging and on-site processing of dredged sediments in the port of Oskarshamn

Oskarshamn is a Swedish harbour town with a rich industrial heritage. In the past, a copper production site and a battery factory discharged polluted wastewater in the sea. As a result, the whole harbour is now polluted, a source of heavy metals, PCB’s and dioxins. The shipping traffic in the harbour also spreads the contaminated sediments over the Baltic Sea. Envisan is taking care of the most extensive environmental rehabilitation works ever conducted in Sweden.

In March 2016, Envisan started putting together the sediment dewatering and water treatment plant in the port of Oskarshamn. This whole installation was entirely designed in-house. The treatment plant was built on location, from filter presses and consolidation plants to all pipes, scaffolding and steel structures. The purpose of the whole operation was to clean up the polluted seabed in the harbour basin, over an area of 500,000 square metres. For Envisan, this was the biggest project in five years.
