The local project team in Mauritania has organized a beach clean-up on the remote Cap Blanc beach, a nature reserve to the south of the city Nouadhibou. The reserve is home to the world’s last colony of Mediterranean monk seals, who have become an endangered species.
Moreover, the area is known for its rich diversity of sea birds and birds of prey, including pelicans, booted eagles, lanner falcons, etc. That great natural value was the main motivation to organize a beach clean-up in this remote area.
In all, 13 project members and 5 local participants engaged. Together they filled 50 bags of 100 litres, which comes down to 5 m³ of waste. And this on a location with difficult access. Are you wondering how they achieved this?
