Open Sites Day: VRT House
Sunday 26 May
On Open Sites Day, many construction companies in Flanders open their sites to the general public. We are again participating this year, among others at the site of the new VRT House and the Scheldt tunnel.
As part of VRT Morgen, together with Willemen Construct and EEG Group, Jan De Nul is building a new home for public broadcasting on behalf of VRT. Creating media is of course central to this. There will be three large TV studios, five radio studios and lots of technological innovations. The goal? To be able to make media in a flexible way throughout the building. In addition, the new VRT House is committed to sustainability, openness and greening. The future VRT House is an impressive building with an equally impressive site.
The construction of the new building is certainly not an everyday project. During Open Sites Day, you will have the exclusive opportunity to discover the structural works of the new VRT building and admire its grandeur. Register for a visit via the website of Open Wervendag.

Open Sites Day: Scheldt tunnel
Sunday 26 May
As part of TM COTU, Jan De Nul is helping to build the jewel in the crown of the Oosterweel link, the Scheldt tunnel. This tunnel will form the main link in the Oosterweel link and close the Antwerp Ring Road on its northern side. With its 1.8 kilometres with three lanes in each direction and a separate bike chute, the tunnel will allow direct travel between the two river banks.
The construction of the tunnel is a real feat. The tunnel consists of eight 60,000-tonne tunnel elements that we are currently building in a specially designed construction dock in the port of Zeebrugge. On the Left Bank in Antwerp, we are currently working on the ramp to the tunnel under the Scheldt. In the construction pit, 25 metres below ground, the first part of the tunnel is being built, against which the tunnel elements will later be immersed.
On 26 May from 10 tot 16h, you can visit both the construction dock in Zeebrugge and the concrete works for the tunnel ramps in Antwerp. Registration is not needed.
Where: Charles De Costerlaan 500, 2050 Antwerp (access ramps)

Interactive exhibition 'Going Like The Wind'
22 May to 29 September
Going Like The Wind is a captivating children-sized experience exhibition at Fort Napoleon, Ostend. The interactive exhibition offers a unique insight into the world of renewable energy. Through interactive panels, visitors can discover how electricity from offshore wind turbines comes ashore and learn about innovations such as the Princess Elisabeth Island. As part of TM Edison, the joint venture behind the Princess Elisabeth Island, Jan De Nul is contributing to this event.
What to expect?
- An interactive exploration that brings to life the eponymous book 'Going Like The Wind' by author Sarah Devos. Discover with your children the whole journey from wind to burning lamp.
- An adventure activity trail where children can play to their heart's content: from crawling through ‘turbines’ and ‘cables’ to climbing and jumping on a play version of Princess Elisabeth Island. Don't forget to take a fun photo in the photobooth!
- A family quest through Ostend. The energy story also continues outside Fort Napoleon. Follow the trail, answer questions and solve the assignments you are given at the start of the quest.
