On the African west coast in Sierra Leone, three projects were completed.

For the construction of a new oil refinery, Jan De Nul Group were contracted by Dangote Group to backfill a 2,400-hectare site on the Lekki peninsula, 70 km east of Lagos.

In 2018, Jan De Nul Group transported the first rocks to build a 5 km long submerged breakwater off the Benin coast. With this project, the Benin government wants to reduce coastal erosion. Jan De Nul Group will be working on this project for three years, installing one to three tonne rocks and supplying 2.5 million m³ of sand.

At the southern tip of Argentina lies the Vega Pleyade offshore gas and condensate field. The field is located in the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, off the coast of Tierra del Fuego. Since 1978, Total has been running the CMA-1 concession. It extracts 30 percent of the Argentine gas with Tierra del Fuego at the centre. Here, Jan De Nul Group worked at one of its most southern projects for Total.

In the Grand Banks, along the east coast of Newfoundland in Canada, there is a large oil and gas field in the Atlantic Ocean, 350 km off the coast. In 2003 and 2007, Jan De Nul Group had already taken care of excavating two production wells. In 2012, the powerful trailing suction hopper dredger Cristóbal Colón dredged the second well. At a depth of up to 130 m, in extremely hard and constantly varying soil conditions, Jan De Nul Group successfully dredged a production well 10.5 m deep and 45 to 80 m wide.

Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors NV, a Belgian Jan De Nul Group subsidiary, Herbosch-Kiere and DEME, together with BOA Offshore, bundled their skills to salvage the Norse frigate KNM Helge Ingstad. That was done in 2019, using a unique ‘Double Duo Lift’ method.

In de havengeul en in de jachthavens van Nieuwpoort voert Jan De Nul Group onderhoudsbaggerwerken uit met cutterzuiger Hendrik Geeraert en de splijtbakken Magellano en Verrazzano. Bijzonder aan het project zijn de CO2-reducerende maatregelen die Jan De Nul Group neemt, gestuurd door de Vlaamse overheid, agentschap Maritieme Dienstverlening en Kust.

Liepaja is one of the major cities in Latvia, and one of the top-3 ports in the country. The access channel to the harbour needed upgrading to provide access to larger, fully laden vessels. Jan De Nul Group was awarded the dredging works as part of the Liepaja Port Water Infrastructure Works.

Nouadhibou in Mauritanië is een grote exporthaven van ijzererts. Mijnbouwbedrijf Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) wou de haven kunnen openstellen voor schepen met een capaciteit van maximaal 250.000 ton. Jan De Nul nam de taak op zich om het 25 km lange toegangskanaal naar de haventerminal en de zwaaikom te verdiepen en te verbreden.

The port of Filyos dreamed of excelling in maritime transport. Jan De Nul Group helped to realise  this dream, amongst others by carrying out dredging works. As a result, Filyos now has the third largest port in Turkey and is the main export centre on the Black Sea.

For the construction of Palm Island II, a.k.a. Jebel Ali, contracting authority Palm Island Development (Nakheel) partnered with Jan De Nul Group in 2002. We built an island in the shape of a palm tree. The area is 7 km square, with 17 branches each 80 m wide and is designed as a holiday resort.
